MATERNAL PROTEIN MALNUTRITION DURING LACTATION PREDISPOSES TO A METABOLIC SYNDROME PHENOTYPE IN MALE WISTAR RATS

چکیده

Maternal nutritional insults during lactation can modulate the offspring phenotype associatedwith risk of non-communicable diseases at different stages ontogenetic development. The aim this research was to analyze biometric and biochemical parameters male Wistarrats, born dams fed a low-protein diet in first two-thirds lactation. Therefore, themothers received ad libitum normal (NP, 23%) or (LP, 4%) diet, originatingtwo experimental groups that were evaluated 14 days old (NP-14 LP-14). The resultsshowed LP-14 rats had lower body weight (p<0.0001), reduced liver(p<0.0001) higher brown fat deposits compared equivalent control. They also exhibited hyperglycemia (p<0.05), hypercholesterolemia increasedserum β-hydroxybutyrate contrasting with triglycerides (p<0.05) levels. We conclude maternal exposure able toprogram 14-day-old neonates develop metabolic syndrome phenotype, probably dueto restriction visceral growth these animals.

Soya protein- and casein-based nutritionally complete diets fed during gestation and lactation differ in effects on characteristics of the metabolic syndrome in male offspring of Wistar rats.

The AIN-93G diets based on soya protein or casein were fed to pregnant Wistar rats from day 3 of gestation and compared for their effects on characteristics of the metabolic syndrome in male offspring. Pregnant rats were randomised to either a casein (C) or soya protein (S) diet (n 12) during gestation only (Expt 1) or during gestation and lactation (Expt 2). Male offspring were weaned to eithe...

Low-Protein Diet during Lactation and Maternal Metabolism in Rats

Some metabolic alterations were evaluated in Wistar rats which received control or low-protein (17%; 6%) diets, from the pregnancy until the end of lactation: control non-lactating (CNL), lactating (CL), low-protein non-lactating (LPNL) and lactating (LPL) groups. Despite the increased food intake by LPL dams, both LP groups reduced protein intake and final body mass was lower in LPL. Higher se...

Effects of Maternal Lead Acetate Exposure during Lactation on Postnatal Development of Testis in Offspring Wistar Rats

Objective(s) During recent years, there has been an increasing interest in contribution of environmental pollutants as heavy metals to human male infertility. Present study was aimed to investigate the effects of maternal lead acetate exposure during lactation on postnatal development of testis in offspring rats. Materials and Methods A total of 60 female rats randomly divided into four equa...

The prostate of weaned pups is altered by maternal malnutrition during lactation in rats.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of maternal malnutrition during lactation on prostate growth and estradiol serum concentration in the prostate of pups. At delivery, nine Wistar rats were separated into three groups: control group (C) with free access to a standard laboratory diet containing 22% protein; protein-energy-restricted group (PER) with free access to an isoenergy and...

The effect of characteristics of proteins fed during gestation and lactation on development of metabolic syndrome in dams and male offspring of Wistar rats

OBJECTIVE The objective of the study is to examine the role of characteristics of proteins in maternal and weaning diets on risk of metabolic syndrome in male offspring. METHODS Pregnant Wistar rats were allocated to two groups (n = 12) and were fed the AIN-93G diets based on either intact protein-based diet (IPD) or mixed amino acid-based diet (AAD) from day 3 of gestation throughout gestati...
